The Huntsman

A complete refurbishment of the Huntsman Inn

We met with the new owner of the Huntsman Inn at Little Wenlock in March 2010, to discuss the design and building refurbishment of the dilapidated existing public house and restaurant, to create a high quality gastro-pub with accommodation above.

The original building was outdated, disjointed and lacked a visual entrance. It had closed in December 2009 and fallen into disrepair.

The new building

The new building (completed on target within 18 months) uses architectural design to retain the traditional feel of the existing property, bringing in a contemporary and modern twist. A visual, welcoming entrance to the building is provided in the form of an impressive oak framed lobby. The new Huntsman Inn now houses a walkers bar, restaurant and hotel accommodation.

In order to support the financial longevity of the scheme, 4 dwellings (to include 1 holiday let) were proposed to the rear of the existing property. Planning policy did not allow new dwellings to be built in the area. Planning permission was gained as an exception to the rule, following a successful campaign which received much support from local people as a way of encouraging new business and jobs into the area.
